Strange boot problem with new build.

Hello people. Im not a hardware expert so I'm gonna make no speculation as to the source of my problem but just describe it as fully as i can.

I just built my new build which is.

ASUS m2n-sli deluxe mobo
Athlon X2 3800+
2x1GB Corsair value select RAM
BFG GeForce 7600 GT OC with 256MB GDDR3
19" OcUK Value VGA LCD monitor
Maxtor 250GB SATA drive

The problem is sometimes when i turn on the PC there is no signal to the monitor but other times there is.

Strangely it seems to work more often when the monitor is unplugged when i turn on the PC then i plug it in if/after the fans go quiet.

So... any thoughts people?

Did you buy it separately or it came with the casing? If you bought it separatly what is the name of the Manufacturer? because sometimes if the PSU is not from a Good Brand name company, it does not comply with the stated power rating and quickly falls below standard,....

The PSU came with the case. It is made by a marked "Eagle"

No, there are no beep codes except the one short beep when it does boot.

no, it might say 500W but in reality its not, bassically it only has 1 12V rail providing 216W and 1 5V rail and 1 3.3V rail providing 230W (combined), you need a powerful PSU (PSU's is not the area to save money) cos a good PSU will live through many upgrades, what you want is something like the Antec SPll as a general rule PSU's that come with cases are not good but there are exceptions
 
OK so my new PSU still has the same problem.

Following the asus tech support advice i took out all except one memory, the cpu and the gpu and it worked like that.

The critical component seems to be wether there is one or two memory dimms.

Both will work on their own in either slot but both doesnt work either way round.

Suggestions as to where to go now?
 
boot the system, then go here to find out the raw wattage your system requires, if its less than the good make PSU you now have, then its time to look away from the PSU, also try reseating everything (to ensure a good connection, and only use 1 stick of RAM (for testing purposes) also try to find out the RAM speed (of each stick) your mobo may auto detect RAM,

which is your mobo ?
 
My PSU is well over the amount of power needed by the system now. It came up about 400W and i have 580.

The system always works reliably with any one of my two memory DIMMS in either of the DIMM sockets (DIMM_A1 and DIMM_B1) but if I use both there is a problem (both sticks are identical so should work fine)
 
I m belileving that problem is not with your memory cards but with your settings. Reset your BIOS and see if it does the trick.
 
I've done that many times using many methods including the following:
- reset option in the BIOS setup program
- clear CMOS jumper for 10 seconds
- flipping the battery polarity for 30 seconds (recommended by ASUS tech. support)

It makes no difference.
 
Insert both the cards and if it crashes again then restart your computer again and look in your even viewer (RightClick MyComputer > Manage > EvenViewer) in the System and Application Events and see if there is any error over there. Just copy and paste that error here because it could be helpful in finding the problem.
