I'm not sure which forum to put this in, so ill put it here and in the memory forum, then i guess a mod can help me sort it out.
so, basically due to all my excitement for the boxing day sale, i went to futureshop at 5:30 this morning and snagged a " GeForce 6600GT OC" for about.. $160 canadian.. installation was a little bit of a hassle (getting the drivers right and all that crap) but i got it done :)
here's where my problem comes in. ever since, i've been getting stutters in almost every game (some games are alot worse then others, for example, f.e.a.r. the game will pause for 5-6 secconds at a time, sometimes)
It's quite different then normal framerate lag, as the framerate usually stays 25-30 even in pretty intense enviroments. Basically, the game (video and audio) just "pauses" for a few secconds, sometimes looping the audio until it corrects itself.
Alot of people are having this trouble with half-life 2. but my problem expands on alot of games... If you would like a better description, please go http://www.blep.net/hl2stutter/#systemspecs there. there is even a video of what im experiencing near the bottem, but sometimes mine can be alot worse. ALOT. :)
here's what i've tried.
*Increasing the paging file on c: to over 3 gigs!
*adding another 3 gig page file on h drive
*deleting unwanted programs (clearing space)
* updating motherboard drivers.
* updating videocard drivers (after no luck, i tried using the Omega drivers, still no luck)
*Tried lowering the settings in the game far below what i know my specs can take.
*increased the agp voltage to 1.6V
* set fsb spread spectrum to 1%
* in dxdiag, lowered sound acceleration by 1 notch
I tried all that and im still getting stuttering! like.... really really bad. unplayable :P
heres my latest report from the program "everest", to show a bit of my specs.
CPU Type : AMD Athlon XP, 2000 MHz (12 x 167) 2400+
Motherboard Chipset : nVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400
System Memory : 512 MB (DDR SDRAM) (hmmm, that was 768 before i installed my gcard)
Video Adapter : NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT (Omega 1.6693)
(previous adapter was a geforce 5700 le)
hmm , I dont know what to do? could the gcard have broken my ram or something? lol :) is i hope not.
please help!
