Switch From IE To Firefox?

I know this question is a no brainer to most of you. But I'm a newbie. I want to switch because--among other things--whenever I clean my hard drive I always see all these activex and java barnacles encrusted there. What happens when I move to a browser that doesn't have activex and java? Are things going to get screwed up? Are there other problems that will come up because of the switch. Is it necessary to leave outlook express? I get email from almost nobody. And I've never even seen an attachment, let alone opened one. So, do you see an email security problem?

So, please educate me. What do I gain and what do I loose when I switch from IE to Firefox?
 
You only gain from switching to Firefox.

It is just the better browser, simple.

Some sites only work with IE, as FF doesn't support Active X, but this is only good as Active X is what can hijack your browser.

So use IE to update windows from the microsoft site, and thats about it.

No, but you have no real reason to be using outlook express. If you want to use a mail client on your system, I would suggest using Mozilla Thunderbird.
As for Firefox, like Waffle said, Firefox is just better. Nobody that I've shown Firefox to has gone back to Internet Explorer. Firefox looks nicer, is cleaner, safer, has tabbed browsing (very nice feature), and a lot more. Whereas IE honestly and obviously doesn't compare.
 
Firefox is faster, as was previously mentioned, :) and it uses the W3C-compiant Gecko rendering engine. In other words, if a page doesn't render properly in Firefox, it is probably the page which is at fault and not the browser. It supports tabbed browsing, extensions and themes. The next revision that comes out, Firefox v1.1, will actually render even faster and will have even more advanced privacy features.

everyone has there own personal opinions and you need to make yours.

For me, firefox is slower. I cant view half the pages because i have to go dl some plugin to make it work and most of the time i cant find the plugin and even if i do it still doesnt work. also i dont like the download box thing. very annoying.i do like tabbed browsing though. very nice feature.

but its not enough to make me switch. ill be sticking with IE. you should make your own choice. dont let anyone tell you "you have no reason" or "you can only gain". its all a personal preference and thats it.

you have every reason to use outlook express (if you like it) i use outlook express and love it. its simple easy to use and has never given me a problem.


make your own choice. try them compare them :) either way atleast youll be happy you made the choice and someone else didnt for you.
 
Stick with IE if you want, but the security issues make IE so unattractive that my entire company has migrated away from it.
