System Crash and restart help

Hi

Today all of a sudden my pc crashed and went to a blue screen whilst playing world of warcraft, the pc then restarted before i could read the blue screen.

Win7 64Bit

When i finally logged into windows again i got some error screen with these details:

I then tried to play the game but after less than a minute, it happens again.

I installed the newest software and drivers for my Nvidia 8800GTXXX card but still no luck, i also did a memory test and a system restore to just before this started happening (minutes before) and still no luck.

Any ideas?

How much ram do you have ? Also under C:\Windows\Minidump\010411-25896-01.dmp, see if you can delete this file then reboot.. Sounds like you a fatal error,
Check either the ram or Hard drive... I would do a error check of the hard drive..
 
Hi, I have 4Gb ram which i think is enough, not much is run at the same time as the game anyway.

I did a re image of the machine after doing a system restore and still had the problem. Though after the reimage i got into the game and turned the settings for graphics right down to low all around and it worked great, but i just tried the game again and it crashed the system.

Will dump the temp folder to see if that helps
 
OK, so none of that worked. Im still convinced this is a software problem. I got the blue screen again and was able to see the file name nvlddmkm.sys. A google search determine that this is a generic error, so no help for me, unless any of you have some insight to this? I would be grateful, in the mean time i will try to maybe clean out the graphics card incase its a dust buildup.
 
Are you running a Nvidia graphics card ? this is a video graphics error, either have too update cards drivers or change it out to another card..

Yes the card is an nvidia 8800gtxxx. I do have the newest drivers 260.99.

A search on google showed that the nvlddmkm.sys might not have updated but i checked and it did.

However, i made some progress. Although i cant get into the game, i was able to boot windows then the blue screen happened again. Then i went into safe mode and uninstalled the drivers and everything nvidia. Then i restarted the machine and it booted fine. There is no onboard grpahics so the screen i was seeing was from the g-card (prob using windows drivers or something).

This proves to me that the card is fine, its the driver thats causing the problem.

Yesterday i went into the RAM and took it out and put it in again and checked all the cables.

I reinstalled the latest drivers and again i get the blue screen when i boot into windows. I checked on nvidia's sight and they said to go to the manufacture of the card, i sent xfx an email and still nothing. Well i doubt this has anything to do with xfx, its nvidias driver, i got it from their sight... its their problem.

Still no solution at all. I thought about older drivers, but talk on the web is that it doesnt help the matter, nor does a clean install of everything. :S
 
Yea ! you will have too change either the card or some other driver.. I would try and older driver ... What OS are you running ? If you are running XP, then try a windows 2000 driver..
 
Im running windows 7 64 bit at the moment with nvidias windows 7/vista 64bit 260.99 driver.

Yea i thought maybe to install the driver that came in the disk, but i cant find it at the moment. When i do i will give it a shot and see what happens.

Im not entirely convinced the graphics card hardware is the problem. The vga connection to the monitor is from the graphics card and everything runs fine in safe mode, which as you may know disables all but the most necessary drivers. Hence i believe this is fully a software problem.

After more research online i found that someone a few years ago with a similar spec had the same problem and that it happened after a vista update. This whole thing started when i got an update for windows, but since that initial problem i have re-imaged the machine and formated and did a system restore which rules out the fact it could have been an update which caused this.
 
That is a very good Idea, I think I would install the 32 bit version instead of 64 though, Just because of the drivers problem and there is more software out there that is 32 bit..
