System rebooting when plugged into USB!

My system (WinXP Pro SP1) is rebooting out of nowhere when I have something (printer - HP 6110 All-in-one) plugged into either of the two USB ports on the back of the computer. If I have nothing plugged in, the system is stable. Any ideas of what to check? Seems like a conflict but I can't figure out what it is.

Any ideas appreciated!

I tried reinstalling the drivers but that didn't seem to work. I'm attaching my IRQ list. USB controller is on its own IRQ but I see two instances of sharing. Not sure if that contributes to my problem. I've added my system specs to my signature.

Try a BIOS update. That could solve your problem.

Make sure USB is enabled in your BIOS and that WAKE ON USB (if that's even an option) is disabled.

As for your IRQ's, I unfortunately do not no much about them. Sorry about that, I feel like I set you up on a hook and left you hangin...hopefully someone else knows something about IRQ's.

One thing I do to prevent any kind of problems between devices is I disable anything that I don't use in the "Integrated Peripherals" menu of the BIOS.

So if you don't use serial ports, parallel ports, etc, you should disable them. Also, if you only have a usb 1.1 printer, only enable that in the BIOS.

I also think there is an update you can download from Windows Update regarding usb connections, you might wanna check if you have it.
 
just like to add, if you have windows XP or XP Pro you will need SP1 for USB 2.0 to work. (Microsofts way of shoving a stick up users of illegal copies)
 
Not true. Windows 2000 with SP3 and a patch from MS will allow USB 2.0 in Win2k. However, since that motherboard does not have on-board USB 2.0, that's not a problem.

The only thing I can think of is to try a USB PCI card and hook the printer up to that. This is if that possible with the limited number of regular PCI slots on that board.

I'm scratching my head here, so in the meantime, I'd suggest browsing the forums over @ 2CPU. There's tons of stuff on the S2460...and other duallie boards. I haven't seen this problem, but there's tons of stuff I haven't seen.
 
Your problem may actually be 100% software and not hardware. It could be unstable USB print drivers in combination with XP. In XP, they've pretty much done away with everybody's favorite thing, the "Blue Screen of Death". Instead of the usual "Contact your System Administrator" message, the system just reboots (or turns off) without notice. I would guess that this might be your problem -- the drivers cause instability, and the system just goes down. In that case, try the printer in parallel mode, if it has one.

My other guess would be an electrical short involving your USB bus. I've noticed that some systems have similar problems with any USB device; the system just goes down. Does the system exhibit similar problems with other USB devices? Again, try the printer in parallel mode and see if it clears up, and you might test the system with other USB devices to see if the problem might actually be hardware.

Problem solved. I guess it was operator error. No more crazy rebooting. I completely removed all HP software and then reinstalled the printer and didn't have any trouble with it after that. I don't know how I screwed that process up. I also hooked up this Logitech zoom cam and everything is stable. I haven't re-tried the Belkin 4-port usb hub yet. I think there is actually something weird with that because when I plug it in I get a WindowsXP pop that says "the device has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize the device....try again or replace..." Belkin says no drivers needed for that. Maybe it got fried at some point.
