ok first post for me.Im no tech head wish I was,youve probably heared this all b 4 but here goes.Im good at putting things together even if i dont understand how they work.So to me cooling is about getting things cold.I like to keep things simple!So the way i think to keep a computer cold put it in a fridge.Ive seen so many of the small fridges on sale for keeping your beer cold and most of them seem about the same size as an atx case so why not put the case in the fridge?This is just my first crude designe idea.Take it further just the internals fitted into the fridge with a perspex front a few cathodes neons and hay for me anyway a cool set up.Why spend a fortune on cooling when you can stick it in a refriderator for a lot less.Sorry if this has already been done and trashed but hay just a thought

PS if you get the fridge big enough there will be plenty of room for the beer
 
It depends what type of fridge, because that kinda of cooling could cool the water vapour in the air and cause water buildup on the boards, and that's bad.
It's somethiing which has been mentioned before but isn't really a good idea.
Is this for real cooling on a regularly used rig or just a cool idea for a 'mod' kinda thing?
 
Condensation will kill it for sure, especially if its long term cooling.

You'l be better off with a water cooled system really.
 
Yea, that and the small refridgeration units in those things are very weak. With something that hot in it the fridge would have to run full time and probably wouldn't last more than a few months.
 
If you had some way of pumping chilled de-humidified air into a PC then that might work, but extreme cooling air liquifies the vapour in the air and can cause water droplets to form on the boards in the computer, this is why you'd need a de-humidifier to get rid of the water content and you'd also need to make sure the air didn't get too cold.
 
Surely sticking a freezer and a couple of 120mm fans in the case is easier, more straight forward and effective? Not to mention cheaper......

You could always hire an elephant to sprinkle water over a water tight case.....

Your cpu runs so hot, you don't get a whole lot of condensation on it. It doesn't work that well though, you should put it in a full size freezer and put a dehumidifier in it if you really want to keep it cool. Just make sure to run lots of air in and out of the case. I did it without a dehumidifier and it lasted about a week, and I estimate cost about 25 dollars in electrical bills. Thank god for bluetooth.
