    It's no big deal, it's very different going from Windows where every bit of functionality comes in the form of 3rd party (often commercial) applications. But the kernel-level filtering in Linux and other Unices are the reason that it makes such a good production firewall or router. Kernel-level filtering means no IO with userland, therefore less OS overhead and better performance.[/ot]
