Time for a new computer!

I'm new here, and I like what I was reading so I decided to join. I'm in need of a new computer. I haven't kept up with all the latest computer gadgetry and I need some advice on building a new machine.

My current machine is having some hardware problems, and since it's old, I figured now would be a good time to get a new one. I have a good monitor that is less than six months old, so i only need a new case and components.

What I want is an AMD motherboard (preferably ASUS or MSI)that DOESN'T have onboard sound and video and has a reputation for staying cool (I have a socket a mobo and they run hot!). A good AMD processor that won't break the bank (maybe 2 to 3 ghz) and a good sound and video card (NVIDIA or ATI) but not the elite ones. Would like 1024 of RAM using two 512 sticks.

I want a mobo that will be capable of being upgraded for a while that will house the latest cards without any problems. I'm not worried about overclocking and all that, just want a good machine and the budget is around $600 or less. Need a case that can house a couple cd drives and a few hard drives.

Just wondering if you guys can suggest some hardware to throw together.

just tell current configuration so we can count them on second hand and make extra funds available for you ;) sound card is not needed at all beacuse today's mobos use high definition sound chip if you consider amd you can buy a nforce 570 sli and can have good quality of sound easily what you gotta spend money on is the gpu case as the new pc is for games

choose hdd yourself but i think 200gb will be enough and it will be samsung
18x lg dvd-rw (faster ones are available but still good enough)
256mb x1950xt gpu (choose the model yourself concerning the cooler etc.)
feel case 550watt (choose the model yourself again, feel has quality psu)

You'll be hard pressed to find a 300W power supply that's really adequate for today's systems. Pretty much every motherboard has some sort of on-board sound, so while it's not desireable for you, you can disable the sound chip.

You can get a cheaper video card, but you're going to be pretty hard pressed to get better performance for the money than the 7900GS I linked. I was kinda surprised to see them this cheap.
