Turning on ext harddrive CPU shoots to 100%

I built my pc, My spec is A P4 3.2GHZ, 1GB memory, 128MB (FX5500 AGP 8X), CD-RW & DVD-RW and a External 80GB hard drive.

My Problem is my External hard drive, it never use to do that until recently, when i play my music the CPU shoots up tp 100% and hovers around 85% - 100% and slows the pc down.
I have done endless virus scans & defrag it still happens!!!

Has anyone got any cures or remedies for this problem ???
 
have you tried another USB port, as the USB port might be faulty, or maybe somthing is set wrong in BIOS.
 
Have a look in the Windows task manager to see what processes are eating your system resources.

Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, then click on the processes tab. If you click on the CPU or Memory columns, the processes will be sorted in order of largest application first.

ITS THE "iexplore.exe" eating the system resources
 
Okay, lets troubleshoot a bit more:

1) Close Internet Explorer and play a music file on your external hard disk. How much of your system resources are being used?

2) Close Internet Explorer and copy some music files onto your internal hard disk. Then play those files on the internal hard disk. How much of your system resources are being used?

What music player are you using and how much resources is it taking in the processes tab of the task manager?

its does the same thing !!!
 
So it makes no difference whether your music files are located on your internal or external hard drives?

windows player
i just noticed i have 2 or 3 iexplore.exe
 
The problem with Micro$oft products is......

As I said, I bet if you used Opera for you internet browsing, and Realplayer for your music then you would get better performance. Not only that, but you will get better system stabilty and security.
