two monitors one pc and a security camera

hi, im very new here (this is my first post)

looking for a bit of advice and help on something i intend to do:

i have a pretty hi spec pc at the moment so i believe it can handle what i want to do,

i want to add an additional monitor and 2 security cameras to my pc, the cameras will go outside my house and the second screen will be mainly for the cameras so i can see outside,

is this possible, i have a graphics card with two ports on it, one is a regular monitor hole (which i am currently using) and another more square-ish hole, im assuming its for a hi-definition screen or something

what i need to know is

A) will i be able to connect a regular tft screen to the second hole

B) will i be able to set up the second screen so that the camera is set to come on that screen, and maybe be able to scroll the mouse across and click things?

c) can anyone recomend a budget small tft screen, ive looked on ebay and they seem to go for about £80 plus £15 p+p, i was hoping to spend a little less on one?


ps, yes i am a very paranoid person!!!
 
A - Yeah sure, I'm assuming that the squar-ish connector is DVI which should be a vanilla beige sort of color usually on video cards and may look like it would fit this

B - Yep with a dual monitor setup you should be able to assaign a security camera feed to one monitor.

do you know anywhere to get a ok-ish quality tft for cheaper than £100?
i dont really know where to shop for stuff like that
 
I did find one on ebuyer with a 3 year warranty that was cheaper but oh wow did it look cheap. Response time and contrast ratio were terrible and personally would feel much happier with the one listed which is actually made by viewsonic
 
Some of eBuyer's own brand stuff is terrible. So you've got to be careful what you choose.

However, Daave doesn't exactly need a top dollar monitor if he's only going to use it for surveillance.

thank you for all the advice,

im not sure what all the things you mentioned about monitors mean but if the ebuyer OB ones arent up to scratch then i think an additional £20 isnt too bad to spend on a better one, after all i may decide to sell it on or use it for another purpose in the future and i think it would be a better investment to get a decent one..

i think what ill end up doing is looking on ebay every few days to see whats ending soon etc, this was i might get a bargain, are there specific makes i should avoid?

ill probably bump this thread up when i have more questions, so thanks for the advice and ill most probably be back when i need more!

Why not get a CRT monitor? They are cheaper for a start, and will be more then enough for your surveillance.

Brands I recommend: Samsung, Samsung and erm... Samsung

the money isnt really a problem, i just didnt really want to spend loads and loads on something to just look ata camera picture,

i think what im going to do is buy another dell monitor, i have the 19" one, and i think its going to look quite "matrix"-ish to have another one identical on a twin wall bracket!
