Upgraded my RAM- Problem

Hi all! I'm having some difficulty and was hoping someone would be so kind as to take some time to help me.

I just bought new RAM, this here: Newegg.com - CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

It is CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel.

I am pretty new to upgrading computers, first of all. So this is what I did: I pulled the old 1g sticks and put these ones in, turned on the computer and checked the system properties in Windows. That's all I thought you had to do.

It reports the 4g of RAM, but CPU-Z is showing max bandwidth of PC2-6400 (400 MH). That's definitely not what I paid for.

Any idea how to resolve this?

Here are my specs:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @2.4g
Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard (With latest BIOS installed that they told me could run PC-8500)
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS
Windows Vista SP1 32bit
And then now this new RAM.

If anyone could help I would be SO grateful.

Whats the reported speed in CPU-Z?

if CPU-Z is showing 533mhz as the memory speed then its running at the stated 1066mhz because DDR doubles the bus speed of the RAM e.g DDR 800 runs @ 400, DDR-667 @ 333.3, DDR-533 @ 266, 1066 @ 533, 900 @ 450)

Check the ram settings in BIOS, they might be set to AUTO, you should set them to match the memory timings; in you case it should look like 5-5-5-18 oh and you might need to change the memory voltage to 2.1V.

don't worry about it being reported as PC2-6400 if its running at the stated speed without problems. Also it could be a PC2-6400 designed to run at PC2-8500 speeds but its not had its chip info updated.

quick search suggests its running at the correct speed, you have to manually set the memory frequency in the BIOS to have it running at 533mhz (1066).
 
So I need to go in the BIOS and make changes? Or are you saying it's running at the speed it should be already?

I tooled around in there the other day and I didn't see any place to make changes to the speed. Thanks so much for your help with this.
 
yep in the bios, there must be something in there that indicates the memory speed, that you can change. (maybe under overclocking settings)

its running at the correct speeds for PC2-6400 ram.
