USB(Pen Drive) is not getting detected

HI guys,

Mine is a p-4, 2.4 Ghz intel system ,it has 4 usb ports,i am using

windows xp pro as OS.when i connect thumb drive the power is getting

suppplied,but usb is not getting detected ...

when i opened divice manager,universal serial bus controllers option is

not present,it is not even present in yellow color..

I even checked whether ---usb is enabled in CMOS setup

i found USB controller blank ,there is no option present to enable or

disable.


what might be the problem.... ?...(i got my bios flashed a month ago with

latestest BIOS update),is it problem with OS or Bios

If you are positive that USB is enabled in your CMOS setup, then you have a problem with Windows.

Go My Computer > Control Panel > Add Hardware. Let the computer detect your USB hubs/controllers.

You got me wrong !

i went to cimos setup to see if usb is enabled or disablebled....

the usb controller under cimos is blank there are no options present to enable it or disable ........what might be the problem...
 
There are no options whatsoever in the CMOS? Can you see any options that might have been grayed out for example?

Have you run the 'Add hardware' wizard yet?

usb section is simply blank in CIMOS(not even in grey mode)

usb was working fine until before i flashed my BIOS...

...is this the problem

Your saying that as soon as you flashed your BIOS, the USB stopped working? Could you see USB settings with the old BIOS/CMOS setup?

In that case, then you can only point your finger at the BIOS. Are you certain you flashed the correct BIOS utility?
If you made a backup of your previous BIOS, then I recommend that you restore it. Failing that, go back onto your manufacturer's website, download the latest (and compatible) BIOS, and reflash your BIOS.

There's an old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"! Did you really need to flash your BIOS in the first place? If anything goes wrong with the BIOS, your computer is essentially :swear:
 
You must have flashed it to the newer version and if its not working then it means you have done smthing wrong~! Do what megamaced is suggesting you~!..........

From where did you flashed your BIOS actually?
 
Seem quite obvious but are the pen's USB and the mobo's USB compatable?

i.e. if the pen is USB 2.0 and the mobo is 1.1 it is no good.. etc...

you catch my drift :cool:

It supports but the only damn problem you will come across is the speed of data transfer. USB1.1 port will not give you the full efficency of USB2.0.........
