Using a large LCD TV as a PC display

I was wondering if any of you had a chance of plugging his PC to large LCD displays such as 37" or 42". I have 32" LCD TV that went into repairs and I am thinking of buying a new larger display that will only be used for my PC (work, movies, games).

So, at this point in time, I am wondering how much sense does it make to buy such a large TV for PC use. As I work on PC and spend a LOT hours per day on it. Is it too large? Would it make too much strain on eyes?

Well, here's something to consider: the resolution. A typical 17" monitor can do at least 1280x1024 @ 60Hz in most cases, if not higher. TV's are just now starting to hit 1024x768 or higher. If you're going to be sitting close to the screen, then you're going to notice the blockier display of the LCD.

Now, if you're going to be using it as an HTPC (HomeTheater PC) and sit on the couch, then, yes, that would be a good move. Otherwise, no, a higher refresh rate, higher resolution, and sharper picture of a monitor are going to be much better for the eyes than a boob tube. If you want something like a PC monitor, then an plasma TV or mega $$$ HDTV would be what you want, and these are usually the $10k US on up ones. Dell has a 30" monitor that supposed to be pretty good, but it's also up there in price.

In short, no, your idea is probably not the best move for your needs.

That TV I posted about has 1366 x 768 pixels, and that is all I will want really. I plan on using DVI to HDMI cable. As I only got DVI on my GFX card. So it is high quality signal for factory set resolution of the TV. It also has that ambient light, which eases the eye stress.

I may stick it on the wall, so it will be 1-1,5m away from me. I reckon that 42" is too much. I got that 32", and 37" would be just right. I got BENQ 3250 which atm costs at around 1000$, so fairly cheap for such display. And it worked pretty fine. Until it started eating dust and getting dirty spots on inside...

Philips 37PF9731D costs here 4160$. So I reckon it is high quality. Been checking reviews. And well would be good to not go over that price.
