Video Card on a Budget

Now I know this forum probably gets a load of these threads, but I will do my part of the end and research my hardware.

From DxDiag:
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
Memory: 1016MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
-
Card name: RADEON 9200 PRO (Omega 3.8.252)
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc. (Omega 3.8.252)
Chip type: RADEON 9250 (0x5960)
Display Memory: 256.0 MB

After just buying and loading BF:2142, I realized that this game won't even run. So I figure it's a good time to retire my old video card and move on to another.

The only thing that I would prefer is a Nvidia card over others. I've had an ATI, and an Nvidia and regret not buying an Nvidia when I bought this Radeon 9250, as the first Nvidia I had before my house burned was older and ran better than this one currently.

My slots:
One PCI Express x16 graphics PEG slot
Three PCI slots
One PCI expansion slot
No AGP slot

Two I was looking at:

PNY Verto GeForce 7600 GS 512MB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card
PNY - Verto GeForce 7600 GS Graphics Card - VCG76512SXPB

&

PNY Verto GeForce 7300 GT 256MB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card
PNY - Verto GeForce 7300 GT Graphics Card - VCG7300GXP

Consider I'm running on a budget of about 220, any advice at all will be welcome.

Welcome to the forums...

Is your budget 220 dollars or 220 pounds? I can think of much better cards for 220 pounds... MUCH better cards...

Thanks,

Mike

Even with $220, you can get into a GeForce 7900GS quite easily, possibly a 7900GT. This list is a pretty good idea of what you can get in your price range. If you go through BB, you can get a PNY GeForce 7900GS for around $200...which is odd given the price they have the 7600's set at.

Thanks for the replies and welcome, and thanks for showing me newegg.com, I was hoping for a site like that, not having to rely on bestbuy/circuit city anymore.

What about the 7600's? Are they outdated or still good? The price range of around 150 was more of what I was looking at, with about 220 as max.

i wouldnt go for teh 7600 series if i can get a 7900 series card, coz the performance gap is considerably large.
