Videos from laptop to TV

ok, I boguht an S-video to RCA cable; I hooked the s-video side to the laptop, and the RCA cable side to the TV, but I am not getting anything on the TV

I went to display properties and clicked on"Extend my Windows Desktop to my Seconde monitor" which is the TV, and still nothing; I also updated the video card; how come I'm getting nothing on my TV
 
On my laptop I have to press the Function Key (Fn) and F6, which then gives me options of how I want to display the screen (laptop, laptop & TV, TV). Look in your manual or a key on the keyboard that looks similar.
 
If I can remember correctly when I was outputting to a TV, I had to lower to extended desktop resolution to 640*480 for it to show up on the TV.

yea, no luck, i tried setting the resolution lower for the 2nd monitor(TV), still nothing, then tried setting the laptop to the lowest settings possible, still nothing

tried holding Fn and pressing all F# buttons and nothing appeared on laptop or TV (no options); have no manual either
