Vista Beta 2

I wouldn't really want to try it, I'm fine with Linux at the moment, only windows for compatibility.
 
I do have it downloaded but I don't think I'm gona try it, I'm looking to linux but sure at the moment.
 
By the time it's released, it'll have been 5 years since XP was released, and presumabley they've been working on it since then. When XP was released it was only 2 years after ME and 2000 were released. So surely because they've spent so long on it, it can't be that bad..... Can it? :confused:

I'm not saying it's not going to be bad. I'm saying it's taken so long to make, that it should be better than XP, even though it probably won't be until there is a service pack released.
 
It may well be better then XP, but it'll still look pale when put up against Linux and OS X.

Linux can already do what Windows promises to do, and on older hardware too.

I thought about downloading the preview, but then i just thought, can I really live through another blue screen of death? :deadman:
 
I have a family of 5 who all need to use MY :angry: computer, and using Linux just wouldn't work. My Mum can just about check emails, surf the net and MSN, My sister (3 years old) can switch the computer on, log onto her user, then press cbeebies or whatever. If I had Linux on, my sister wouldn't be able to just click her user and have it log on, my Mum wouldn't be able to MSN as easily as she can now etc... Even dual booting isn't easy (I tried on my laptop once and failed miserabley).

Sorry about that. Just thought I'd have a rant.

Win Vista is a very huge project. There were so many errors in it, thats why it is taking such a long time to lauch and still they are not able to decide the proper date because bugs are not fixed yet. They are extending the launch of VISTA from 2004.

She can do it in firefox. Its not a big deal. You just needs to tell her once.

You mean she dont have any password to enter in her account? You can do one thing, you can set her username and password in Linux both with her name. So she has to enter her name twice. Thats it!

I dont know what cbeebies is but if you are talking about games then there are more games comes in Linux already installed than Windows OS.
 
I know we COULD move to Linux, but it would take ages, backing up 90gb of stuff so we can reformat in ext3 or fat32, my sister can't type, she just clicks her user name and it logs her on. Also, we have so much software that it seems a waste to move to Linux and possibly not be able to run it under Wine.
 
Well, you could always try a LiveCD of Linux. No installation, but you'd get to play around with it whenever without disrupting your Windows OS.
 
BTW Thomas234, no one here suggested that you should use Linux :confused:

If you are happy with Windows, then stay with it.
 
I found it painfully slow to load.
I accessed my xp partition to view some pictures (first said I didnt have permission but it had a button to press which gave me permission)
I looked at a few in a slideshow (had some OK editting features intergrated)
Then it crashed. Didnt bother again.

In fact I changed the drive to ext2, Im going to finish a linux thing I started.
