Voltage question XD

Hello Forum,
First time for me here XD

My question is what can happen if I changed in the bios the voltages to manual (it was all Auto)
The reason why I did that is because my cpu was almost burning, with Prime 95 it easly reached in a few seconds to 70c+ so I just put everything on manual and suddenly the cpu didnt pass the 62c
I tried playing BFBC2 which is used to reach 70c while playing and it gets to 60-61 no more.

So can it damage my cpu, and other hardware? is there a way to put it on auto and adjust the cpu voltage so it doesnt burn?
oh, and does it affects my performance somehow?

My guess would be that by setting it to manual your limiting the amount of power to a certain value whereas by setting it to auto it can fluctuate by necessity.
Obviously when your throttling your PC, voltage values will go up and with power going up there is heat.
If your voltage is limited to certain values, then it can only get so much power and this may hinder performance to what its limited to I think.
However, I can't blame the motherboards capability of handling the voltage values (auto) so my thoughts are if you have adequate cooling.

What CPU do you have? What kind of CPU heatsink/fan do you have?
Do you have a custom PC or brand name?
Does the air inside of your PC feel hot while playing games?

You might need to add fans in your case to move the heated air out your PC.
If the inside of your PC looks dusty, might be a good idea to blow it out.
Trying some arctic silver thermal paste might help cooling down the CPU.

Try feeling the power supply to see if that gets hot to the touch while throttling with auto config on the voltage.
If it gets hot to the touch might be power supply issue or you need a higher wattage power supply.
Regards to power supply, don't just look at the watts look at the amp values. Never go cheap.

Other than that, I can't see any other possibilities.
Try looking into it more with what I have said and tell us more about it as well as your specs.
 
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 3.2GHz
Motherboard: GAMA74GM-S2
CPU Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2
and its a custom PC
I added Arctic Silver 5 to the CPU cooler, the thing is everything is cool in my pc except my CPU
I got an 460GTX 768mb which usually is hot, but mine is pretty cool.
I got 5 fans in the case and the ambient temp is 25c-30c
the difference is the instead of having 1.38V I got 1.3V and while playing games I do not notice any difference... is there a way to check my CPU's performance so I check the differences?

All your specs seem good and I'm assuming you have at least a 500w power supply.
I just did some searching and found a few things you can look into.
You can try having software manage power for your PC.
Some people have suggested setting windows power management to power saver.
Others had good results using Gigabytes energy saver utility off their website.
One guy on another forum in reference to your exact CPU quote
"Go in BIOS and bring down your CPU voltage to 1.20-1.25, many mobos give too much voltage to Phenoms on auto. I keep mine at 1.18, no overclock."
