We're not a couple, thanks: The saga of geek love

I loved those movies. I was inspired to go out and spray paint random cats. But uhhh, I don't think its very hard to get approval over here. well you may not get approval but you sure as **** still get married.
 
You can over here, don't get me wrong, you don't need permission to legally get married, it's more of a traditional thing and a mark of respect that you are actually asking them if you can marry their daughter. No idea why, it's just tradition, and traditional things are something we English do far too much. :P

Now, you may have dads that are highly likely to say "No." flat out regardless of how long you've known her. That was the case with me. Now, he's fine with it (and actually hasn't had any sort of a fit about it at all---which surprised both of us). Some things you always do, like have a pastor or priest marry you. Something just doesn't jive about having a Justice of the Peace perform the ceremony. That's just weird. Now, her side is heavily Catholic, but we opted to not do a Catholic wedding. Her folks took that to immediately mean we're having a Justice of the Peace marry us. Uh, no. We'll have a pastor do it, who happens to be the guy we'll do the pre-maritial counseling with. There was another non-Catholic guy under consideration, but we dropped the idea since he's got Alzheimer's in an early stage. He could be fine next year, but then again, it could rapidly progress.

Excellent B, proud of 'ya! Premarital counseling is an excellent practice that demonstrates that you are both serious about the commitment you are about to make. I hope your marriage lasts as long as you do.

Thanks man. I think it will. Both of my grandfathers and my father treat their spouse with respect. I can't imagine them being less than faithful or agressive toward their woman. It's not natural to any of them (well, was for the grandfathers).

I'm playing phone tag with my pastor to get things setup right now. That and getting the reception hall reserved are the main priorities right now. The nice thing is having well over a year to plan everything. The way everything has been coming, you'd almost think we were planning for this September rather than next.
 
Weddings take a lot of planning and it can seem frantic. But it's all good in the end. Best wishes for your lifetimes B. :)

Nupe, I've been to forums that have a thread that's upwards of 500 pages, and it's harder to fill one page there, takes 25 posts instead of 10/15.

It's all planning for what is considered the most important day of your life. But the factor of divorce has kinda got rid of that idea, as in you can seem to have these most important days as many times as you want.

A few threads have, one from the old forum I was part of, it was a thread that was based on my book trilogy, very sucessful.

The other one died, it was a Beginners Tavern on the roleplay forums, people came and did what they liked as long as it was not spammy. :P

*Update*

Well, we're doing the initial consultation with the pastor and we'll start in the fall. We're waiting on a small detail, but we've pretty much got the reception hall picked out, and the one detail will determine if we have the wedding on the 16th or 23rd of Sept '06.
I'd love to see the hall, but it's open one day a week, and there's really no way I can get there to look at it and not be late for work.
Oh, well, there's pics on-line, so I can have a general clue.
So, as of this moment, we've pretty much got the immediately major stuff squared away. The next big issue, at least as far as I'm concerned with to do something about, is the honeymoon. We're trying to decide wether to take one immediately after the fetivities or just go back to daily life and take some weekends out of town. At this point, we're looking to settle that matter by the end of the year.

The site that has them doesn't seem to be working, so I'll have to check back later. Probably won't be much tomorrow since were going up to a lake and meeting her mom's side of the family.

In related news, go for it Big B, I attended a wedding recently (18th August actually) and the photos will be here in a few weeks so I'll shove them on a website and let you all see, I'll let ya know which one I am. :)

Okay, basically short of the deposit being handed over, we've got one of the places we wanted, so the date is officially the 23rd of September 2006.

She also found a pretty neat cake topper (and got it 40% off). I think it's porcelain, and it's highly detailed. The figures have eyes etched in, unlike some of the cheap plastic toppers.
 
Wow the big day is coming mighty close old boy, hope you have a great time then, the topper sounds pretty cool.
 
yea topper sounds cool,

really have a good time man, wait till the honey moon comes, thats where the fun begins and doesnt end for a full week haha
