What is slowing this setup down?

So a simple question asked - What is slowing this setup down? I think it's HDD, but help me! :)

depends on what you consider is running slow.
what os are you running? what apps do you use?
games?

my guess is memory if your saying you have 2gb.
also perhaps your slow speeds are software related.
 
Well, I mostly play games, graphics and overall FPS in most of the cases is fine, have no problem with that. Problem i have is with "loading", sometimes it takes forever to load anything, multitasking is difficult in some cases and sometimes my computer freezes for a moment till "he" can load everything properly. (i.e. switching between games and windows etc.). Got this machine for 2 years and planning some reinstalation of Windows since i got it somewhat trashed. That might help a bit, will see.

violetblueskies Is right, your main issues will be the fact you only have 2GB of RAM installed.. increase the RAM to 3-4GB of RAM and it will increase performance... but in saying that if you have a 32Bit OS then it will won't recognize 4GB it will show up as something like 3.75...

Run a virus/malware scan in safemode using malwarebytes and then again in normal mode see if it picks anything up.

Your best bet is to perform a clean install of the OS if you say it is "trashed" anyway and then try not to install things you will never use, also make sure you install the very latest Drivers by visiting the manufacturer website and/or vendor website.

Also make sure your Graphics Card is not overheating... check the temp and make sure the fan/fans are free from fluff/dust etc.. maybe a good idea to take off the fan/heatsink and reapply a fresh layer of thermal paste before putting the heatsink/fan in place.
 
Alright then, thank you for your replies. I will probably get myself a piece of Windows 7 to start things off and i was looking too for some decent 800MHz DDR2 RAM to fill in to my DualChannel. If you guys got some tips for RAM that could fit with this one, let me know.

check the site out for specific models of memory that are compatible.
for added performance, like bugsy said i would upgrade to at least 4gb. if the price is right you can maybe do 2 x 4gb and replace what you have in it now.
as far as reinstall is concerned, its not a bad idea to start over and eliminate the possibility of software bottlenecking your performance.
