Well, it has started to take off in recent years. I don't know what's available in the UK, but I think the releases over there are a few months behind the US's releases. It's even worse if you're in Australia. It's growing like mad, but it's still not always on the same acceptance level as, say, the Simpsons or Family Guy. It's getting there, but there's many people that think anything animated is for kids...and it ain't. There's a broad range of categories and age levels, and equating animation as a kids-only domain can be a big mistake. If you checked out the December Anime Roundup, you'll notice Ikki Tousen is in there, and while it's entertaining, it's basically a few steps shy of ani-pr0n. Not for kids (if you couldn't tell by the DVD's cover).
