Whats faster

Hey everyone,

I have enought parts laying around to build another system but im having trouble deciding what processor to use. I dont know what one would be faster. The two choices are;

Tualatin based celeron 1.4ghz has 256k l2 cache 100mhz fsb
Or
Pentuim 3 (I think coppermine based but not sure) 1gz has 256k l2 cache and 133mhz fsb

I would have thought that the 1.4ghz would be faster but not sure because the other one has a 133mhz fsb rather than 100mhz. Does it make that much of a diff?
 
I never had the pleasure of seeing a Celeron at work especialy the older ones.

From personal experience (already stated in another post),
I think the coppermine PIII is a brilliant processor.
When I had my 650Mhz I would have sold my children for a 1Ghz or higher....

My guess is - go with the PIII.
It is very stable and does not need exsesive cooling.
And for speed just try and use as much RAM as possible....
With 512MB or thereabouts this system should fly.
 
Actually, the Celeron would be faster. While, yes the faster FSB of the Pentium 3 would prove helpful, ultimately, the 400MHz speed difference of the Celeron will more than make up for the slower FSB. The specs are quite similar. If the specs were the same save for the FSB, I'd go with the P3, but otherwise, the Celeron, in this case, trumps that P3. The Tualtin-based P3's have 512kB of L2 cache, so Intel went ahead and bumped up the Celeron's cache.
 
Thanks, thats what i was thinking. The 1.4 must be faster even tho the other has a faster bus. Plus tulautin vs Coppermine. Tulautin even a celeron must be a better chip.
