Which Card?

I'm constructing my first computer, and It's gonna be mainly for gaming... My escape from reality when next summer Begins *Heeeheee* Anyways the MoBo I'm thinkin' about gettin' is the DFI Lanparty UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert NVIDIA Socket 939 ATX Motherboard, Because according to reviews it's a good mobo, and it has the spec's I wan't to be able to use it for. Also, my system is gonna be 64 bit. Any Idea's for a good gaming card that will be considerd "good" for more that 4 months?

Is there any particular reason you're not going down the Socket AM2 route if you're going with AMD?

We'll need to know your budget as that'll be what determines that card you get.
 
Well like I said, I'm new to the whole thing. Also, I'm not quite sure what AM2 is... It's new though... Isn't it?

Edit: My budget isn't really a deal of how much, but how long it takes me to get enough money, I'm hopin I can start this and end it making aprx 400$ a month by the end of the year so I can be pwning N3bs as earlly as possible... Ooor maby a bit of oblivion...
 
AM2 is a new socket for AMD - the new socket now uses DDR2 memory and is the newer socket. socket 939 will eventually be phased out. If you want to be upgrading this in a years tome for instance AM2 is the way to go as 939 will most probably be gone by then and you'd be looking at a whole new motherboard, CPU and RAM. (Can be costly)

Right well you'd be looking at a mid-high end card, I know for the money the 7600GT seems to be a good way to go.

If you want something more powerful maybe look at a 7900GT or X1900XT - These cards are getting into the high-end of the market. If you want the best you can buy get a 7950GX2 or an X1900XTX as these cards outperform everything - the 7950GX2 is essentially 2 7900's SLI'd - but it only uses 1 PCI-Express slot because of the design. These cards allow for Quad-SLI - using 4 GPU's to power the graphics. In a single card / GPU situation I think the X1900XTX wins.
 
Alright... Because I was looking at some of the newer card, and they where the ddr2 ram whatzit, so I was affraid that if i bought the wong equipment, I'd be in t3h shit... But ill check it out, thx.

Also, i really want it to be 64 bit, bcause ive spent all my life on 32 and 16 bit slowness, and i want to experiance some real power.
 
Woah, I found an exilent MoBo n processor, both 64 bit compatable along with windows xp 64x pro... Awesom... Thanks for the tip, I had no idea what AM2 was and I was planning to stick with socket 939. You are T3h N3rD.

1 more Quick q, I'm looking at this MoBo - Detailed Specifications for MSI K9N SLI Platinum NVIDIA Socket AM2 ATX Motherboard Audio PCI Express Dual Gigabit LAN SPDIF USB 2.0 & Firewire Serial ATA RAID at TigerDirect.com - and I'm just wondering if this would be a good 1, also... do i need a card to enable SLI or is it enabled in the BIOS?? Forgive me for how stupid i sound. I'm only 15, and ive only been reading and researching for the last 2 weeks
 
Hey don't feel inferior - you're not, everyone starts somewhere, we're here to help you as much as we can.

Also is there any reason you're going for AMD - the Intel Core 2 DUO CPU's are very good performers for the money - maybe look into them as well.

What I suggest you do (If you're unsure of what to do) is to make a thread in the 'New Build' section and we can help you with the parts for the entire system to make sure you get the best for your budget.
