Windows login problem

Hi, when I try to log on to Windows, I click on my username, type in my password, and log in. Within a second, it logs me straight back out, no warning, no nothing. I've tried quickly pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete, nothing happens. This happened completely randomly, all I did was reset my computer and it suddenly started happening. Has anybody had this problem or know of a fix? Is it a virus? What can I do? HELP! Any ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks

You can try booting into SAFE mode and doing a virus scan!
Also if you have a guest account activated try logging onto that!
I'm not sure as to what the problem could be so i'm just throwing ideas around!

ok thanks, i found a person with a similar problem here:

http://computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/109250.html

ive tried a virus scan on another hdd on the pc and deleted the adware/spyware on there (no viruses) but it's still happening. Safe mode doesn't work either, I'm going to try debugging mode to see if that works like it did with the guy above

debug mode didnt owkr either, still logging me off straight away :(

If all else fails you could try repairing the windows installation with your disc if its XP.

ok but what will that do exactly? will it get rid of all my installed programs/preferences? and if i just press 'r' it takes me to to command prompt, not sure what to do after that...

Thanks

You don't press R at the menu, but instead you press enter to install and when it detects that XP is already installed press the appropriate key to repair the current installation.

This method will 9/10 maintain all your programs and will not delete any data at all. All data will be kept except windows will be repaired.
