won't boot with new Video Card

Quick specs:
P4 3.0 ghz
Intel 865GLC
1GB Ram
WinXP Pro
Enlight 420W PS


I had an ATI 9800 pro 256MB and the bearings on the fan siezed up. the card is no longer good.
I bought an ATI 9800XT 256MB to replace it. (from an Ebay E-tailer)
I installed the XT (hooked up all cables, seated correctly) and I boot the computer.
the first boot, it just shuts off after checking both CD drives.
If I turn it on again, I get the overheat siren, and it stops booting. I'll get this until I pull the card and start the computer without it.

The computer boots fine without the card (even boots with the old card, but no display), runs at a constant 85 degrees F.
The Mobo on-board graphics function for now, but I'd really like to get back to playing games.

I agree with Jim.

The only other thing i can suggest is to;
Just make sure that you have disabled the on-board graphics (via the jumper) because when i changed my jumper it was not engaged on the board properly, and it gave me a similar problem

did the old 9800pro die, or is it just that the fan siezed up?
if it is just the fan, you could of went out and bought a new cooler.

i would never by graphics cards off ebay, i have sold 2, but would never trust people who are selling them :\

Is the 9800pro not working at all? As Willhub said, if it's just the fan, why don't you plug the 98pro back in and boot the computer? If it boots fine, then you know the 98XT is defective. If the 98pro works without a fan you should be able to at least boot to Windows before it gets too hot.

Try it, you have nothing to loose. You were gonna throw the 98pro anyway, right?
