XP boot disk

Hi guys,

I have a laptop that I have salvaged from ebay. I bought in working condition but with no hard drive.
I am trying to install a copy of XP home onto it which is currently stored on my PC's hard drive in daa. format (Don't worry, the laptop came complete with Windows Home lisence sticker on the base)

I burnt the OS on to disk but I forgot about making it bootable, can anyone tell me how to do this?
I tried making a bootable DVD+R but I don't think the drive will read this.

Can you tell me how to fit it on to a CD-R. I usually use Nero and I have managed to unpack the Windows daa. with PowerISO.

Just one other thing. Out of curriosty I put my working laptop's hard drive in to this new one and it came up with a blue screen saying something about it may be corrupt, check bios and check for virses. Does anyone know why it would do this, could it be a problem with the new laptop?
 
First , you will need a XP setup disk to install on the laptop. What is the specks of the laptop ? You cannot stick in a hard drive from one to the other, UNLESS
it is the same exact make and model.
 
Ah right, that clears that up. The one that works is a Sony Vaio, the one I transfered it to is a Fujitsu Siemens.

I have managed to get XP pro to load on it, so I was wondering if when that is fully installed it would be easier to install XP home over it as I won't need a boot disk then will I? The one I am trying to install XP home to does not have a floppy drive.
 
Ok! the one you bought from ebay is what ? Make model and specks?
Processor/memory/and hard drive you are installing? You don't need a floppy boot disc , you can make or download a CD-rom boot disc.

The one I bought from eBay is a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo L7320GW.
Pretty sure its got a Intel M 1.6ghz processor, 1gig RAM and I'm trying to put a 80GB hard drive into it.
I tried burning the XP daa. with boot information I got from the Microsoft website but the only way I could get it all to fit was to put it on to a DVD+R.

Sorry to be a pain but could you explain step by step beacuse I feel like I'm skipping ahead and confusing both of us!

What do you mean by XP daa ??? The only way to put Xp on your hard drive is to have a XP setup Disk, Either Home/Pro or other .. You will have to format the new hard drive, then install.

Do you have a XP setup disk ?
 
I do not have an XP home set up disk at the moment, the files are on my PCs hard drive in daa. format. I have an XP pro set up disk but that is for my working laptop (I do not have a spare licence for it) I am trying to install XP home on the eBay laptop as it has a home licence on the base of this laptop.

The hard drive I am trying to install XP home to is already formatted and ready to go.

I have an XP pro set up/bootable CD, but I'm trying to make a XP home set up disk.

Forget the Home version and try to install the pro version. See if it will let you use the same serial number, If not let me know....
 
It lets me install pro no problems however I've used the serial number on many other machines before as a quick fix (always one machine at a time just using my own license key and then uninstalled it when I know everything works fine) and I always get that genuine validation crap when getting any updates because I think its been used one too many times.

I was hoping to put a clean install on this eBay laptop as I plan to keep it so want to do everything by the book, hence using the home licence that it came with.
 
That license is not going to work either, Unless you are the original owner.
You can buy a new copy of XP home , Or setup XP pro or one of the other many versions of XP. If you want to use XP pro or other then email me.
Do you have access to DSL ?
 
I'm confused with how this licensing works. Am I not a legitimate owner if I have a licence sticker?
Or will it detect that it has been used previously?

I installed pro earlier and then installed home over it as this was the only was I could get my disk to run.

Yes I have cable DSL.

What should I do, I'm confused?
 
No, You may have the sticker on the case,But it would come back to the person
who bought that laptop new. Anyway , I just emailed you...
