    Wrong RAM reading?

Interesting: Whilst I'm waiting for the manufacturer to send me the correct amount of RAM I requested, I've been experimenting with The 2 sticks I have at home - 1 X 256MB (400MHz) and 1 x 512MB (300MHz). If I put the 512MB (300MHz) in Slot 1 and the 256MB (400MHz) in Slot 2, I get crashes...

    Wrong RAM reading?

UPDATE: The RAM stick I put in ('1GB') only turns out to be a 512MB stick!). It was clearly labeled as '1GB' though - the manufacturers must have put the wrong label on it! Anyway, for now, I've just put the stick of 512MBs in that they sent me, and everything works fine - no BSOD...

    Wrong RAM reading?

The motherboard can take up to 2GB of DDR 184 pin RAM. It has two DDR slots, so I guess it should be able to take 1GB in each of the two slots. I'm running Memtest to see if it throws up any errors - it might be a faulty stick of RAM. Also, I've been getting a few BSOD after adding the 1GB...

I've just put a 1GB stick of RAM in my XP machine. The machine already had I X 256 MB. I went into 'Sytem Properties' to check the now new amount of RAM - only to find the reading is only 768 MB! Any ideas on this one? Thanks, David

Just a thought - my XP laptop is formatted in FAT 32, and the Desktop in NTFS - could that affect file sharing across the two machines?

    Network problems.

The only firewall I have, other than what's on my router, is the XP Firewal - which I disabled, but it made no difference - still can't access folders on the Desktop.

    Operating systems crash on loading!

Yes, guys - it was a defective memory stick flagged up by Memtest! The PC is now running on just 1 X 256MBs. Well, I have decided to buy a 1GB stick and slap that in. Any excuse for an upgrade!! :P

    Smoking Ban!

Well, guys. From July 1, Britain goes smoke-free in pubs, restuarants, clubs etc. I don't smoke myself, but I'm 50-50 about the decision. What say you good folks - is it right and good to enforce the ban - or a breach of the rights of individuals that enjoy smoking when they are at social...

    Operating systems crash on loading!

I've been trying to reload Mandriva 2007 & Ubuntu on each of the 2 hard drives of my desktop PC. However, the pc generally crashes (mostly screen freezes) with the installations failing each time. I've never had the two said operating systems do this before now. Could this be down to memory...

    avi -dvd

Try 'DVD Santa'. It is a very easy to use program and gets good results. The free version leaves an annoying logo print on the finished DVD playback, but you can get round this by maximizing your TV screen to "Cinema" size, or whatever largest screen size your TV supports (well, it worked for...
