Well I have tried a new power supply (not the problem) and reformatting to rule out software issues (also not the problem). Now I am thinking that this is either a motherboard, CPU or HD (SSD) issue. Anyone have any pointers on how to test these things out? Thanks.

isnt the firewire and usb sockets the same mini type B?

It could possibly be the power supply but it might not be someone else will have to help with that. Have you looked at the BIOS? Maybe there is something not quite right in there.

I have a USB 2.0 external hard drive and I was just wondering if it would still work if I used a firewire cable instead. If it does work i figure it would give me faster transfer speeds, but I am just not sure if the driver would be compatible with firewire. Thanks

I would maybe switch to Utorrent (µTorrent - Powerful BitTorrent Client) I have both but i tend to use utorrent more, it loads much faster. My router was being POS so instead of doing port forwarding i just enabled UPnP. This fixed my NAT problems and I now get 150kb/s. Hope this helps
