How Can I change my Monitor resolution?

-Try to boot using safe mode then go to your screen settings and change the resolution. When you reboot you should be at the correct resolution. -Now, 800x600 seems to be very, very low... A 15" LCD monitor would most commonly handle 1024x768 while a 17" would do 1280x1024 assuming it's a 4:3...

    Buying a new computer

Spend an extra $60 and go for the 8800Ultra. Just a suggestion. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130090

Why won't my RAM upgrade work?

One or more of the sticks might be bad? RMA maybe? -Try to see if you can boot with one of them. If it won't boot try another one. Go through all of them if you have to. If one boots, try a second one in Channel 2 slot. If you have a good pair and you bough two pairs then you only have to RMA...

    CPU overheating

-Is de... CPU usage monitor showing anything abnormal? (are you really idling?) I suggest just touching the fins of your heatsink and seeing if it is hot when your PC is idling. If it burns you, you know it's 70C. My 3.0GHz P4 ran at about 38C to 43C (overclocked 400MHz) when idling. And...

Help to build cheap, semi-future proof PC.

Look buddy, take a joke will ya. It's only because I actually read the other responces. Oh, and by the way I knew Grady's in the UK, I have a friend living in Manchester who might have been able to help him build one if he lived close to there.

Help to build cheap, semi-future proof PC.

Hello n00bs. Grady, where are you located? Because a $200 graphics card in USA will run at about $400 in Europe. A 7800GS is a f***ing $500 for christ's sake. A PS3 cost $2500 in Russia when it came out. You want a good computer, put it together yourself, or have a friend build it (like me). We...

will this build run ok with win xp ??

I would suggest opening your case and touching your ram, if you can hold your hand on it withhout it burning the hell out of you, you should just ignore the bad temperature sensor.

    Rate my build

Well, if you are going for value the PC looks good; however, a few suggestions could be made. -The RAM that is listed is sort of fancy; you could save a few dollars on your RAM. The dominators earn back their value when the user chooses to overclock. In your case, while using the computer for...

    transferring parts?

In response to your last comment (unedited) I can say that all you have to do to replace the motherboard without backing-up, wiping your hard-drive clean or reinstalling windows, is to uninstall your current motherboard chipset driver and installing a new one when you've mounted everything on...

    transferring parts?

In your case almost any Socket 478 motherboard would do the trick. If you want to keep your memory I suggest having your new motherboard compatible with DDR 184-pin memory with 4 slots available. To run your 1600 series GPU you will need an AGP expansion slot. In addition to this I would check...

I agree with Fred, but in my opinion the power supply should be first on your list to test.

    RAM Upgrade

I can tell you that if the PC is older than 3 years it does not use PC2 ram, more likely to be regular ddr ram with the highest speed of about 400MHz Dual-Channel (PC3200). Not that this really matters but, most likely, you cannot set voltages to ram since dell locks up your bios settings so...

Can I run this Video Card?

You can get a 256MB XFX 8800gt for about $100. With this deal you could play considerably faster but know that you can't reach the full potential of an 8800 with you CPU. This card should work on any PCI-E slot. PCI-E 2.0 is expected to be better, but i don't know too much about PCI-E 2.0.

call of duty 4, and a bottle necked 8800 gts

My P4 at 3.00 GHz slows down my 7800GS. At 3.39GHz it's very good. Since the 7800GS is slower than the 8800GTS, several times probably I would assume that an 8800GTS in your configuration would be a waste of money. I would recommend at least a 4600+ X2 before upgrading.

    Halp Meh!

Thanks, I'll try that on one of my friend's Linux computers, but I still need a more practical approach at this problem. I'll most likely need to access them directly through windows because there are more than 80GB worth of data. I won't be able to use CDs or even DVDs and I have no idea how to...

    Halp Meh!

Hello, and thank-you for visiting this thread: I really appreciate it. I've just reinstalled my OS onto a new HDD, and I'm just trying to get some files off my old one that doesn't work so well anymore. It's a Maxtor 160GB IDE drive which I set to slave and my computer does recognize it and I...
