Go to Device manager, and view the properties of your Network Controller. On the Advanced tab, untick the box that says the system can shutdown this device to save power.

The ink itself is usually ok, but the ink residue on the printhead will usually congeal and clog it up if you leave a printer sitting for 3+ weeks. Doesn't always happen, but it's usually a good guideline to print at least once every 2 weeks to keep things working.

A clicking sound could mean the hard drive is going bad. A CD/DVD rom will only produce noise when accessed. Check this link too: Noise from computer
