Yes C2Q is going to be a big step up from your celeron. It looks like you are also down on power with video, but the C2Q will be a good start. ;)

The problem is that this new hard drive is empty, is not formatted , and has no operating system. You are going to have to reinstall your operating system to get your computer up and running.

You should run a benchmark and see if the bottleneck is actually with the gpu, or some other part of your computer.

So this is one you build right? Computers that you build dont generally sell for as high as a brand name computer. It is 2-3 years old yes, but it has a quad core processor and 4 gb ram + discrete video. You should still be able to get like > $400 for it

if you dont put your OS on your ssd you should definately put your page file on it. Putting your page file on a solid state disk will greatly increase performance

should I get the i7 2700k or 2600? the 2600 supports VT-d, which is something I think I would use. Does anyone who runs alot of virtual machines, notice improvement with VT-d?
