I couldn't agree more. I felt the need to play a C&C game after a very long time-out, picked up and played Generals a few times and enjoyed it. But I've never been much of a fan of the Red Alert series, something about it just didn't sit right with me.
I downloaded the demo on Xbox Marketplace and fired it up, I could not believe it, the cast they have for the cut-scenes was laughable, (George Takei was the only decent one among them) hardly any acting going on whatsoever, with accents that made me cringe. And what I found insulting even was what they had done with the advisors, since when were strategy games about showing off clevage? Come on, it's just ridiculous what they've done with it. And the graphics were diabolical, we're supposed to be in the seventh generation of console gaming now, High-Definition graphics and near-realism. With games looking like Dead Space, Fallout 3 and CoD: WaW you'd think RA3 would look at least somewhat decent? Nope, it looks like they used the same graphics from a PS2 engine.
The only saving grace about the game was the storyline, I thought it was a nice idea about history being so affected by the death of Einstein. But that was the end of the good parts of the game for me.
As for the gameplay, it tried to be innovative and give all the units a purpose with their special abilities. But in the end, 10 tanks managed to take care of almost everything. And even after a few failed testing attacks, does the AI retaliate? Oh of course not, it just lets me build a bigger army and try again.
Sorry, REALLY had to get that rant off my chest. :)
